If you only ever intend to spread a spray coating or a liquid wax, no correcting dual-action is a sensible purchase at all. An orbital waxer does that job for a small fraction of the money and cannot hurt anything.

Long-throw machines are harder on pads than short-throw ones — more travel means more flex and more heat in the foam, and a thin pad built for an 8 mm tool collapses under it.
